Cover-up Information

There are many factors that need to be considered when transforming existing tattoos into beautiful new pieces. Here’s what you need to know about the process and what to expect.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a cover-up tattoo different from a regular tattoo, and what should clients expect from the process?

Cover-up tattoos are designed to hide the elements and images of an existing tattoo. New elements are strategically placed to give the illusion that the original tattoo has disappeared. Depending on the existing tattoo, some elements may still be subtly visible, integrated as elements of the new piece. Clients should expect the cover-up process to potentially require a larger and bolder design to effectively conceal the original tattoo.

Can you describe your approach to designing cover-up tattoos? What factors do you consider?

Cover-up consultations must be done in person. Clients need to come with a design idea of what they would want if the existing tattoo wasn't there. Taking into consideration of the size, color, and complexity of the original tattoo we will work together to figure out a new design that hides the existing piece. In many cases, the cover-up will need to be much larger and possibly darker or bolder to effectively cover the existing piece.

What are some common reasons people want to cover up an existing tattoo?

Existing tattoos can be covered up due to poor aging or dislike of the existing design. Cover-ups also remove designs that we no longer wish to remember. I understand these concerns and look forward to working together to create solutions to help you love your skin again.
